Appraisal FAQs:
Q: How long does an appraisal take?
A: Generally 30–45 minutes for a typical one item appraisal such as a diamond engagement ring.

Q: May I stay and watch?
A: Of course, we welcome you to stay and watch. Many people find it very interesting and highly educational.

Q: How experienced is the gemologist?
A: Our Certified Gemologist Appraiser has been doing jewelry appraisals for over 25 years. In addition to insurance appraisals and appraisals for estate tax purposes, he was an expert appraiser for a Consumer Reports^® article and a guest on a radio talk show. He also has been an expert witness for The Westchester County and Bronx County District Attorney's office in assisting with criminal investigations. He has been able to assist in resolving many conflicts in regards to disputed grades, prices, or purportedly switched stones.

Q: Do I get the appraisal documentation right away?
A: No. The gemologist will let you know verbally at the time of the appointment about the quality and values of your items. The report is then prepared and mailed out within 2–3 weeks. If there is a situation requiring an earlier delivery, we will work with you whenever possible to meet your deadlines.

Q: How much is an appraisal?
A: It is based on a flat rate dependent on the time it takes to perform the appraisal. Also, there is an extra charge for larger diamonds and certain colored stones. It is not based on a percentage of the value. Prices for a full appraisal start at $65.00 an item.

Q: When do I pay for the appraisal?
A: Payment is expected at the time of the appointment.
